Support for Refugee Families

English language classes and Homework support

Conway Education Centre provides free English language classes (ESOL) for adults and a Homework club for refugee families.

English language classes: English language classes take place twice a week, from absolute beginners to improvers level. Participants are asessed at the start to ensure they access the right level of English language course. Please contact our adult education coordinator Christine Poland for enrolment or more information. Email, or phone 02890-248543.

Homework support: The homework support club is on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon during school term, from 4pm to 5pm. We provide support for primary school and secondary school children between 7 and 17 years of age. The service is free and is supported by BBC Children in Need. Volunteers with a background in education, subject teachers and teachers from the Full Service Community Network meet at Conway to provide a support service for children and young people from refugee families. They help with understanding homework tasks, provide additional support in English, Maths and Science and help with researching the internet for school presentations.

For more information on support with school and homework, please contact our Homework Club coordinator Helen McLaughlin at or on 02890-248543.

Summer Programme: Supported by funding from Children in Need, the Good Relations Unit and the Department for the Economy, Conway provides an education support programme for refugee families, for both adults and children/young people (between 7 and 17 years of age). Further information on our Summer programme 2020 will be available in April 2020.

Our staff and volunteers are qualified, experienced and have a clear Access NI certificate.
